He began working in 1978 as a psychologist in an équipe for the training of handicapped teen-agers.

From 1979 he has been part of a therapeutic team in psychiatric service in Corsico (MI) area. Between 1981 and 1984 the team was under the supervision of Mara Selvini Palazzoli. That was one of the first applications of family psychotherapy in public psychiatric care context (see "Alla conquista del territorio", NIS, Roma, 1984).

From 1983 to 1993 he worked as a consultant in a foster care team in charge of the selection of families and of in the foster family support groups (CAM, Milan).

From 1983 to 1987, together with Stefano Cirillo and Anna Maria Sorrentino, he formed a therapeutic team in a private practice.

From 1983 to 1993 he became part of the staff of a psychotherapy service for socially disadvantaged adolescents along with other family therapists (Centro di Terapia dell'Adolescenza di Milano). Here he was in équipe with psychoanalytic psychothepists.

From 1982 he was a member of the research and therapy team directed by Mara Selvini Palazzoli in the Milan’s Nuovo Centro per lo Studio della Famiglia (see "Cronaca di una ricerca", NIS, Roma, 1985 and "I giochi psicotici nella famiglia", Cortina, Milano, 1988).

As well as the three books already mentioned, all translated into various languages, he published articles in numerous journals: Italian  (Adolescenza, Connessioni, Ecologia della Mente, Rivista di Psicologia Clinica, Terapia Familiare), American (American Journal of Family Therapy, Family Therapy Networker), inglesi (Journal of Family Therapy), Swiss (Thérapie Familiale), Spanish (Redes), Argentine (Perspecitvas sistemicas, Sistemas Familiares).

Since1986 he is a member of SIRTS (Società Italiana di Ricerca e Terapia Sistemica).

Since 1989 he is a teaching member of SIPPR (Società Italiana di Psicologia e Psicoterapia Relazionale).

Since 1990 he is a member of EFTA (European Family Therapy Association) and in 2000 he was elected to the Board of that Society.

He has been part of the Psychologists Council since it’s foundation as well as the list of psychotherapists established by this Society.

 

Education and Training

 

Since 1980 he has worked as a teacher and clinical supervisor in various public health services (USL), Medical and Social Institutes, and training schools for social workers and psychotherapists.

From 1987 to 1994 he supervised the professional teams dealing with chronic psychosis in Ferrara’s USL. In 1995 he was supervisor of a family therapy clinic created by Ferrara’s psychiatric services.

Since 1984 he works with the Escola de Terapia Familiar of Università Autonoma di Barcellona.

He was called in numerous occasions to lead clinical seminars on family therapy by Universities and Professional training centers both in Italy and abroad (Hamburg, Barcelona, Bilbao, Brussels, Buenos Aires, Chur, Heidelberg, Los Angeles, Neuchatel, Oslo, Paris, Puebla. S.Sebastian, Tel Aviv, Tokyo, Washington).

In 1988, together with his colleagues Stefano Cirillo and Anna Maria Sorrentino he started up a school for further training  for psychiatrics and psychologists already trained in psychotherapy.

This activity led to the foundation in 1993 of the Scuola di Psicoterapia della Famiglia o wich he heads with Stefano Cirillo and Anna Maria Sorrentino.
